As beauty and waxing experts we all want the same thing...to ensure clients are happy and have a pleasurable waxing experience, so they'll keep coming back and tell others all about it. When it comes to professional waxing there are several key ways to ensure you perform to your very best and achieve the best outcomes. Here, we've rounded up just 5 top tips to ensure you and your clients get the absolute best from your professional waxing services.
1. Get the right tools for the job
It sounds obvious, but not all professional waxing products and systems are the same. To offer the best treatment experiences and outcomes, you need to create a waxing service menu and have the right waxes, systems and pre and post treatment products that are specific to each treatment. From leg waxing to the upper lip and from a bikini wax to a Brazilian, hair growth and density differ greatly depending on the area being waxed, as does your clients sensitivity. So you need the right waxes for the job in hand.
For example, our low temperature Hot Waxes are ideal for facial and intimate waxing, while our soft and pliable Tea Tree Oil infused hard wax pellets work effectively at low temperatures making them perfect for delicate areas, such as eyebrows and hairlines; these provide a cool and gentle waxing experience that leaves little redness. Meanwhile, our pain-free Sine Wax is revolutionising popular waxing treatments. Perfect for eyebrows, upper lips and intimate protocols, including Brazilian and Hollywood treatments, it works at a lower temperature and, when applied, it stiffens slightly making it easy to work with while eliminating the need for strips. This is particularly effective on short, course hair that can be difficult with more traditional waxing methods.
Then there's systems. Our innovative Hy-Wax systems maximise hygiene by eliminating double-dipping, cross contamination and the need for spatulas. Along with pre-waxing products, and post treatment lotions and skin calming soothers, these are just examples of what you need to get in place. But the point is that, with so many different types of waxes, systems, techniques and applications, make sure you get the right range of products to deliver what your clients want and need.
2. Training
When you have all the right products and systems that align with your treatment menu, ensure your team are fully trained in each waxing protocol. Training lies at the heart of ensuring your team deliver the right results, so make sure they are completely skilled and confident in delivering each treatment, that they choose the right wax and treatment technique for each wax, and that they can advise the client appropriately both before and after each service. Waxing is a specialised service and the more skilled your team are, the higher their value to the client, so ensure training and refresher training courses are a regular feature of their development. This also motivates and re-energises your team too, so training is great for morale.

3. Client consultation
This is an important step when offering services to both new and existing clients. Make sure your client is aware of all the waxing procedures, that their expectations are well managed and any questions they have are satisfied. It helps if you know what they are expecting as you can make sure you address any unrealistic expectations, while also ensuring you're aware of any allergies, skin issues or sensitivities and/or lifestyle matters that may affect the treatment. You can also advise them on what to do to prepare for their wax, such as exfoliating, and ensuring they have ample hair growth before they attend. Creating and sending a simple consultation form is advisable as this also helps to avoid some of the frustrations waxing professionals experience when clients are not properly prepped for their service.
It's worth noting that consultations are just as important for even your most regular clients. You know your clients well and their waxing rituals may be familiar to you, but things do change and it's important to follow the same protocols for everyone you treat. Reminding regular clients avoids any unwanted issues which can occur if their understanding of what they need to do is taken for granted, or forgotten, especially if they're trying a new or different treatment.
4. After care products and advice
Having a great service is one thing but properly caring for the skin post-treatment will enhance the results and ultimately make them a happier client! Of course you'll apply an after care moisturising lotion, such as our After Wax lotion, to ensure the skin is calmed and cooled immediate after the waxing service, but advise your client on the best moisturisers to continue this effect at home. Also advise them on other ways to maximise the effect of their treatment, such as avoiding hot showers, intense exercise or swimming for up to 48 hours after their treatment.
This also gives you the opportunity to boost retail by selling your professional line of moisturisers and skin soothers while actively enhancing results by prolonging the treatment effects for your client.
5. Marketing
Spending quality time with your client presents a great window of opportunity to subtly spotlight other waxing treatments, or indeed other services that you offer. If a client books a leg wax for example, mention intimate waxing, facial waxing and other services they might like to experience. You could also mention other beauty treatments too, such as manicures and pedicures.
You don't have to be salesy or pushy, simply make them aware and have information, offers and incentives up your sleeve to encourage them to try other services you offer and/or tell their friends and family about. As we often say, think about adding-value rather than just discounts too. So maybe offer a product sample or a free product if they book another service. Things like this always make client's feel appreciated and valued just as much as a 10% discount!
